What Gift

Great are the works of the Lord,
to be pondered by all who love them.
                                                                                 Psalm 110:2

                                                                                                              Google Images

What gift
each morning:
the sun cupped
in the orange-rose and gold-
turquoise hands of God,
spilling
over
the dark fists of trees
just uncurling
their fingers of light;

over
the disheveling straw-
shine
shuffling through
the disarray
of the parching fields;

what is settling
to sleep
or surrendering
into the deep
opening
 beneath.

And then, the extravagance
of crows
flying up
from all that is shimmering,

their wings like flakes
of pitch-
black night

blowing back
into the heaped congregations
of the blinding stars.

  1. Love the first stanza. This piece reads like a tribute -- and how fitting. It is so nice, right and just, when we recognize our gifts. :)

  4. Cynthia,

I have been enjoying your recent poems immensely.

    "the sun cupped
    in the orange-rose and gold-
    turquoise hands of God
    spilling
    over
the dark fists of trees" I especially like these lines.

Sometimes when we get up early and go down to the park for a run, we see the sun just rising above the gum trees. It is an awe inspiring sight. I shall remember your words next time I witness the sun rising.

    God bless!

  5. Good Morning Sue Elvis! Thank you for your lovely comments and your kind words. Your morning run down at the park sounds glorious. "The sun just rising over the gum trees" wow! Beautiful!!! I will have to google what gum trees look like against the morning sky even though the photos will not capture what you experience there on the other side of here! God Bless you...so good to hear from you...enjoy our Lord's immense beauty....
