O gladsome light, O grace

Of God the Father’s face,

  The eternal splendour wearing;

Celestial, holy, blest,

Our Saviour Jesus Christ,

                                                     There, again,
                                                     the full moon 
                                                     echoing
                                                     our star's light
                                                     from the far 
                                                     slopes of morning:

                                                                                     
                                                     its' gauzy, pearlescence 
                                                     unrolling
                                                     over the shushing murmurings 
                                                     of the leaves 
                                                     and huddling 
                                                     stalks of the fields,

                                                     while I stood, late evening,
                                                     as one among them, clenching the dark
                                                     and curling night;
                                                     the including
                                                     and reconciling  
                                                     light of You, 

                                                     coming from the vast
                                                     beneath, 
                                                     like roots
                                                     of fire
                                                     up-heaving
                                                     this ground--

                                                     this shape 
                                                     of shadow 
                                                     long uncoiling
                                                     into the molten 
                                                     magnificence 
                                                     of You.
