The Open Gate

“Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.”
Luke 13:22

This gate
Again,
You leave open,
Is the height
And width
Of you,
And depth too.

For You are the beautiful gate,
Narrow and vast;
The one who waits
With the lamp
Of grace
For the scrape
Of our heart's
Heel.

You open yourself wide
With mercy,
Saying,
“Come
In
All you who are weary
And rest
In me.”

Saying,
“I am the way
The truth
And the life.”

Saying,
“No one comes to the Father
Except through me.”

And those fierce,
Forged hinges
On your gate
Of light,
 They swing
Both ways
Through the passage
Of love
You leave open.
