For the spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.
Job 33:4
Let us begin to listen
for the hidden breath
that falls like dry-
furled leaves
from the tongues of the world:
meanings in wisps of words
or those sleeping mutably
in the silences we keep.
There are more languages
across the borders
of things
but One breath speaking through
the accents of infinitude
we lean to hear,
like the simplicity of dust
the ashes' utterances;
the multiplicities of incarnations
the holy breadth of song.
I love the focus on languages, tongues, accents, and the acknowledgment of our multifaceted way of being human. I love that this is a call to action. It reads like an anthem and I love it. The "One breath" is a refreshing acknowledgment of our God. I love the play of "breadth" and "breath" and the phrase "holy breadth of song". This is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of the "anthem" quality...I like it! I am glad the play on "breath" and "breadth" is noticeable but then your astute reading would never have missed it!! Thanks so much. I have been noticing breath lately, the different kinds...maybe because I am out of it after I climb many stairs!!!
