And may that love within our hearts
Set fire to others with its flame.
Universalis Hymn
What I remember most
is not the way the sails
luffed and shook
like great, pale manes
below the tall herd of clouds,
or the play of the wind, like unseen hands,
ruffling our vessel across the bays of afternoon,
or the molting light of evening
spilling the cerulean-silver lake
into the smoldering orange-fire.
No, what I remember most
was the way your eyes
came about,
lit with their own uncharted water,
their transient blue
harboring
the rivulets of stars over us;
the netting
of navigation,
of love.
Cynthia, this is lovely - the dedication to keeping each stanza to five lines offers a sense of comfort and security when one could easily be swept away in the wind and water and in the whirlpool of memory. I love the interplay and the multiple levels of meaning here, as well as the way the last two stanzas respond to and complete the first two. Beautiful.
