Winter Compline

Alleluia, alleluia!
You will shine in the world like bright stars
because you are offering it the word of life.

The slow sitar of ice
quietly playing
over the branches of trees
during our sleep;
imagining themselves
long glass
fingers
ruffling through
the blue diamonds
in the chest of night.
 And who's to say,
beneath the plumes
of dreams,
what can be or not?
This breath
of heart hush
going out
over the world
through these winter, compline
hours
like the perfect intricacies of ice;
believing ourselves more
than these thin, lisping vapors
levitating
our dark
into
Your fire of blue,
blue
diamonds.

  1. Wow. This is fascinating. Such unique and bold imagery. I appreciate the first half, nature, setting up and/or speaking to the second (human heart). I really like "heart hush". Ooh, that is nice. I like , too, the depth of this piece, its questions and possible answer. I love the way nature can reveal our struggles or illustrate them, the way we can see ourselves if we just look out the window....
