Into Thin Air

For he shall save the poor when they cry
and the needy who are helpless.
He will have pity on the weak
and save the lives of the poor.
All nations shall fall prostrate before you, O Lord.
                                                                   Psalm 71: 10-13
                                                                                                        Google Images

                                                                Into thin air
                                                                  these prayers
                                                                    go
                                                                against
                                                                  the cloud-
                                                                    calm cold
                                                                in all directions:
                                                                  how long
                                                                    this uneasy
                                                                reaching out
                                                                  through
                                                                    the frost breath's
                                                                filigrees
                                                                  into thin air
                                                                    where my heart
                                                                hesitates
                                                                  its’ song
                                                                    alone
                                                                between
                                                                  the sun going down
                                                                    and the dark?
