Joy

Fourth Sunday of Lent

When we love God's will we find Him and own His joy in all things.

                                              A Merton Reader Thomas Merton

The children spin on the lawn in glee, for the warm day, for being alive and outside in the early spring air and sunshine.  The snow forts sunk back into the damp green like all civilizations’ brief-fortressed playing.   How they twirl and laugh, their joy bursting like tender, green shoots from the earth; tulip colors unfurling, flinging forth from dark dirt.  Oh, Lord I see you in the barely perceptible green, in the children’s joy, in the old lady tapping her cane down the sidewalk, in the patients who come to see me, in the fuse of life becoming, and the buzzard’s lovely, up-drafted spiraling.  Thank you Lord for this crazy joy whirling in the gift of this amazing day brightening with the sound of your voice, the love of your being.
