Depths of Heaven

Chasing Cloud Shadows

Again I see it.  Since I was a child I’ve seen it.  The fleeting and swift cloud shadows
over the pastures and fields.

I no longer run after them, challenge them as in my quick youth.
But, oh how I long to be at their edge, still outrun over the green,
my heart racing like a fire unfurling for joy.

Then they are gone in a moment, my companions and pursuit.

I am left with the steady sunshine beating down on a windy day.

How I have chased cloud shadows again and again in the fields of my life:
running full out after joy, the shadows sliding over verdant pastures of presence in my soul;
the nebulous moving swiftly over the depths of heaven.
