My dear people,
let us love one another
since love comes from God
and everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.
My youngest daughter brings me fire
in a candle-jar,
shadows falling like petals
all around her.
My eldest daughter brings me Mother of Evening
she has gathered from the edges of fields
in the violet-blue thickets of dawn,
her eyes bright as tangled bird songs.
They step through the dew-drenched dark
to awaken me with gifts
on my birthday morning,
arms full of shining
love I am borne,
by grace, into.
Happy Birthday Dear Cynthia! What lovely gifts you received!
