We bless you, Father, Lord of Life,
To whom all living beings tend,
The source of holiness and grace,
Our first beginning and our end.

This is the time of bright sadness
between what is baring
and what is holding
still
above the leaves
measuring the ground
with their sonatas
of light
folding
darkly
into the silences
of the cold.
Now, whatever is beautiful or terrible
are closing
their arrangements
on the pages we hold
between staves
of the ineffable
and our black notes
the song goes out
between staves
of the ineffable
and our black notes
the song goes out
and what we are
remains
in the rough refrains of everlasting
lapsing through our souls.
Cynthia, this piece has such a nice rhythm and sound. I enjoy the musical metaphor. The first stanza is amazing. It holds that perfect balance of bold humility, authoritative suggestion. Bravo! I love "this is the time of bright sadness". Love it. Love it. It brings a smile to my face for all its gloried truth. This is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful season, both in the world and in our souls.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy for your astute reading and lovely comments...I had fun with the musical metaphor! I love this time of year and all the beauty that climbs into us so easily, then curls up. Enjoy my friend!!!
