Universalis Prayers

Deep in the pages of morning,
while the silvering sky
began gathering up
the coins of night,
You came to me
in the dark-sweet
fragrance of rain spilled from the purses of clouds,
entering the rooms of my heart
by the cracked windows,
like a thief
searching.
But what You came to take
already belongs to You:
these costume jewels of words
and bare-tarnished verses,
strewn bits of a soul
disheveling,
listening to
the vast damp
absconding
through the overflowing
banks of light,
from the vaults
of You.
Beautiful poem and image!

ReplyDeleteThe notion of God taking what already belongs to him is powerful and true and never ceases to stop me in my tracks. It is an interesting journey to be on: this living with a writer's heart, praying to write what he wills, and then writing it. (!) However frustrating at times, it is a joyful one. And, indeed, these words are only words. Though they are powerful and amazing, never do they even begin to reach God's power and awe. Yet, he inspires us to continue in our craft, and, we do! All love to you, my dear...
