Waking

The mysteries of the kingdom of heaven are revealed to you; happy are your eyes because they see, your ears because they hear. Because I have made known to you everything I have learned from my Father.
                                                                       Responsory Universalis

I cannot get away from
the holy.
It greets me with large-gentle hands and arms around
 the morning
 like buttery light
over our waking:

it comes with the sound of small feet
over the floor boards
carrying questions
and the tousled realms of dream
tangling our stepping over
the sills of dawn;

it comes in what needs to be done
and what won't get done;

it comes in our loving
and our turning away
from loving--
in our forgiving
and our being forgiven
all the same;

it comes and does not have other places to be
like the love of our Lord,
the loveliest guest,
here and everywhere
and nowhere;

it remains like our very breath
in the rooms of our hours
and becomes the rich
and beautiful
song
we are singing
through each other
while just opening
our eyes.

  1. I love this Cynthia...the pictures and the words brought peace to this anxious soul this morning. I have so much clamoring for my attention internally and I just want to *be* and experience the holy in every moment...every created thing...that I encounter this day. Thank you.

  2. Thank you Theresa! This is an ongoing struggle of mine as well. When I open my eyes to this truth that the holy is everywhere, that every place we stand is holy ground, I am able to, a least a little or for a while, just *be* in Christ's love and welcome and give thanks for His abundant gifts. Why I block this for the myriad distractions and reasons I have no good idea! God Bless and thanks for your wonderful comment!

    1. It's hard to be comfortable in the emptiness...our nothingness before God...we start shifting in our seats and move for *movement's sake*. Part of it is my temperament. I started a post on this but have yet to finish it. Maybe today? : )

  3. It is painful at times as well isn't it? To completely surrender is ongoing and I botch it up so regularly. I'm not even sure I have ever completely surrendered. I can only pray, pray, pray, pray. Lord have mercy.... I look forward to your post!
