May Rain

In the one Spirit we were all baptized.
                                                                           1 Corinthians 12:13

The rain is touching,
with softest fingers,
the deep want of all
that is opening
to be filled.

The mist-gauze air wraps round
our gaping need
like the blustery trees'
scarves of new-leafed song,
our cold hearts in a colder breeze.

All morning
the loosened bouquets of rain
scattering over the bright-
green aisles
of the earth.

And oh, what music? From what lavish
realm this manna
of melody dropping
down in Your unraveling
woven love?

  1. Oh, I love the first stanza. It is intense and there is joy in that. This is a beautiful piece. You are gifted at bringing our human burdens and struggles into the natural world and opening it all to light. Love it.
