One Step

And the one who received the seed in rich soil is the man who hears the word and understands it; he is the one who yields a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, 
now sixty, now thirty.’
                               Matthew 13:23

                         “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step,”
                             a wise man once said,
                          but Jesus said "Follow me"
                             and the ones who hear
                          and understand the word
                             travel the miles                        
                          in His gift of grace, 
                         
                          laying down a path  
                             by walking 
                          with Him--
                             His love
                          waking,
                             glimmering
                          crosses--
                             winding through the provinces
                          of darkness, 
                             as we struggle to learn

                          laying down ourselves
                             to pick up 
                          another,
                             step by step,
                          following our Lord, 
                             who,                                        
                          like the earth's footfalls
                             and currents of air, 
                          is everywhere.
