His love renews all things and is the source of our hope.
Let us turn to him in confidence:
– Lord, accept our thanks and our prayers.
Universalis Prayer
Evening on the porch
after I fold
the duties and labors
of the day and step out
from what is left undone
from what is left undone
and wanting
into the sanctuary
of restfulness,
of restfulness,
into a gently rocking
over time-
rings
of floorboards,
of floorboards,
I begin
slowly
opening
slowly
opening
to the quiet
murmurings of dusk
murmurings of dusk
laying down its’ soft pleats
of blue-grays
over the deep-
shadowed pastures
shadowed pastures
and intricate stories
of the trees;
of the trees;
over solitary bird calls
in the darkening
silhouette
of the fire-
of the fire-
flecked air;
over the shushed
concerns of the heart:
concerns of the heart:
after I empty
and fill
with ordinary
peace
that comes
in extraordinary
ways
overflowing
from the hands
of God.

ReplyDeleteReading this brought so much peace. Even though it is morning, I can picture myself there being absorbed in the restfulness of dusk. It must be so beautiful where you live. I live outside a major city and hope to...someday...be amongst nature.
Have blessed days this week.
Thanks Theresa...I love being steeped in nature but I also love towns and the loveliness they afford. I do cherish my time on the porch which is less frequent than I would like. Early morning and dusk are my favorite and it is cool enough...what heat lately!! Keep cool and God Bless...
