The disciples told their story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised him at the breaking of bread.
They were still talking about all this when he himself
stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you!’ In a state of
alarm and fright, they thought they were seeing a ghost. But he said,
‘Why are you so agitated, and why are these doubts rising in your
hearts? Look at my hands and feet; yes, it is I indeed. Touch me and see
for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh and bones as you can see I have.’Luke 24:35-48
A green fuse advances
Beneath the steeple’s lance of light
Piercing the dark
Before the break
Of Easter day:
Before Jesus appears
To all of us
From the wound
Of the tomb,
With gaping holes
We all touch
To believe
Our disbelief.
While love, the under shimmer,
Is shaping
In His hands
The opening to God
Or flame:
That choosing,
We forge through
Or turn away.
